The Teacher as a Storyteller
It is often teachers of young learners who are the quickest to embrace teacher-led storytelling as a way of engaging students and structuring lessons. But we are considering a classroom art which is far too valuable and versatile to be associated exclusively with one group alone. In this practical talk, I would like to share a number of teacher-led storytelling activities and devices which will be suitable for all types of language teachers and learners.

As educators we are always keen to improve our skills and introduce new materials and techniques into the classroom. While exam-based teaching is an important component for many of us, we are fundamentally English teachers with a much broader range and scope. For that reason I decided to offer you something a bit different for the autumn seminar and the Trends in Teaching seminar programme will do just that. In his workshop, Jamie Keddie is going to talk about the teacher as a storyteller, a skill that may be more commonly associated with younger students, but adapted to cover a wider cross-section of ages and levels. This interactive workshop will engage the attendees in stimulating and inspiring activities that can be introduced into the classroom the following week! And this is what we all want!

I look forward to seeing you there and also to your feedback and suggestions for the future so that we can build on our skills as teachers, together.
